Under the mandate of Commission Vice-President ALMUNIA, commitments have become a major tool in EU competition policy. Many prominent cases (eg. Samsung, Siemens/Areva, Rio Tinto/Alcan, VISA, IBM, S&P, Thomson Reuters, etc.) have been dealt with under the so-called “Article 9” procedure.

The widespread use of the article 9 procedure raises a wide array of practical and theoretical issues which remain yet to be discussed : expediency; relationship between commitments and private enforcement; dynamics of the negotiation process with DG COMP; design issues (scope, nature, duration); appeals, etc.

This conference seeks to reflect the breadth of opinions on the topic. The event features an outstanding line-up of speakers, high level officials, antitrust lawyers, economists and academics.

This conference is a must attend event for all private practitioners, in-house counsels and officials involved on a daily basis in the application of antitrust law.
